Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is a must own on DVD. I saw it in the theater over the summer with the family, and my wife grabbed it on DVD yesterday for my son to watch again and again and again.
You know what? This movie is an instant classic.
As I watched “Cloudy” last night (for the second time) I couldn’t help to compare it to other comedy classics like Better Off Dead and Adam Sandler-esque movies Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison. There are so many unforgettable lines in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs that this movie will be quoted for a very long time.
This is not just a kid’s movie. This is an excellent comedy, and probably the best animated comedy I’ve ever seen. Sight gags paper the background walls of Flint Lockwood’s lab and surrounding town. Continual callbacks to previous gags, randomly shouted out lines from the community townfolks and such an expertly animated cast of characters that deliver each line with such great facial expressions, you will laugh throughout the entire movie.
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is beyond charming, it is hilarious.
The voice cast has a lot to do this success. Bill Hader, Andy Samberg, and Anna Farris shine. Bruce Campbell is diabolically amazing as The Mayor and Mr. T makes an amazing cop Earl Devereaux.
If you are wondering how to spend your dvd dollars this week, do yourself a favor and buy “Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs.” It’s a great family film and probably one of the best comedies of 2009.
