I’ve only attended the Minnesota State Fair once, the year I moved to the state. Ever since I’ve avoided it like the plague. For those of you that don’t know, the MSF prides itself on its many ‘on-a-stick’ concoctions. These include anything that can be frozen and/or deep-fried, though some of these ‘tasty treats’ are presented sans stick.
Past classic medleys include:
Deep Fried Latte
Fried Cookie Dough
Fried Guacamole Bites
Fried Banana Pudding
Fried Sweet Potato Pie
Macaroni and Cheese on a Stick
Here’s a link to the official food section of the State Fair website.
This year, like any other, will present some new menu items, most of which sound like more of the same, but there are two that sound about as tasty and freshly vomited spoiled milk.
Big Fat Bacon: 1/3 lb slice of bacon fried and caramelized with maple syrup, served with dipping sauce.
Doesn’t sound too bad, until I heard that one of the dipping sauces was chocolate. The idea of dipping a slab of bacon into chocolate sauce is just revolting, and I know a whole bunch of fatasses are looking forward to it.
But that’s got nothing on…
The Pickle Pop: frozen juice in a plastic push-up sleeve.
So it’s basically briny old vinegar and salt that’s been frozen, and we’re expected to eat it like a fruit flavored Push-Pop? Does this sound appetizing to anyone?
I am, however, very curious about Green Mill’s ‘Foot Long Pizza on a Stick’, but not curious enough to experience the Fair.
And here’s last years promo ad. Check out the chick eating the, um, ‘corn dog’ at the top.
P.S.: I’ve fixed the image file on my temporary Faster Pussycat Kill! Kill! The Musical site. It now works in Firefox.
