The final girl has been a pretty well known part of the slasher formula. In just about every movie, save for The Burning which has a final boy, and some other films (several of the Friday The 13th films and a few of the Nightmare On Elm Streets have a boy or boys surviving along with the girl), most horror films have a set up of 6-12 people, and they get whittled down until there’s one last girl who is usually a screaming and scared wreck who finds the courage to fight back and kill the villain(s).
There’s now going to be a movie titled Final Girl that will star up and comer, Abigail Breslin.
