We’ve had plenty of dystopian scifi films about the end of the world, or the collapse of free civilization due to corporate or fascist interests, we’ve had plenty of weird, seemingly-drug induced trips through the layers of society being peeled back, and we’ve had plenty of crazy monster movies. I’m at a loss for anything that has mashed those ideas up together quite like this film Branded though. That this first trailer we have is in Russian will only serve to accentuate that craziness, but as often the low-budget shows, a truly unique vision is definitely on display. Also, there are at least familiar faces in Jeffrey Tambor, Max Von Sydow, and Leelee Sobieski to help bring us in…

The film will hit theaters in the states sometimes in September by way of Roadside Attractions, which picked the film up from its Russian directors. Both are veterans of the marketing and corporate worlds who find the idea of advertising among the most insidious and dangerous things facing society today, according to /Film.

And you can trust him on that, because he should know. [Directors Jamie] Bradshaw and [Alexander] Doulerian are themselves marketing execs, you see. Bradshaw is the co-founder of Ignition Creative, while Doulerian is Chief Creative Officer of Russian TV network TNT.

Here’s the official synopsis, but I’m curious to hear what you take from the trailer in the comments below.

BRANDED is a dark and mind-bending journey into a surreal, dystopian society where corporate brands have unleashed a monstrous global conspiracy to get inside our minds and keep the population disillusioned, dependent and passive. One man’s Misha (Ed Stoppard) passion to unlock the truth behind the conspiracy will lead to an epic battle with the hidden forces that really control our world.

And if you need more branding-aware entertainment, don’t forget Logorama– the french short that won an Oscar in 2010. It’s pretty great.
