The rumors of Disney blinking and moving Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End have proven to be, predictably, false. The Mouse House has obviously just been biding their time with promotion, not wanting to burn out a public who saw the last Pirates film 30 times each last summer and then bought 14 copies each on DVD this past winter. But that time has been bidden, and the publicity campaign is about to begin.
The trailer for POTC:AWE (I hate living in the Age of the Acronym (AOTA)) will be premiering on Dancing With The Stars on ABC on Monday the 19th at 8, then showing up online at 10 on Yahoo and Disney.com. But the hardcore Pirates fans* will have a chance to see the trailer early:
"Pirates" fans in cities across the U.S. will have a chance to celebrate
their favorite film series and be the first in the world to see the new
trailer for the highly anticipated upcoming "Pirates of the Caribbean:
At World’s End" at a special nationwide "Pirates Ultimate Fan Event" on
Sunday, March 18th. Fans are encouraged to log on to:
Disney.com/piratesfanevent to win a chance to attend this exclusive
event, which will be held at a select theater in each market. Those
winners that come dressed in their finest pirates garb will be granted
priority admission in each location.
In addition to being the first in the world to see the new trailer for
"Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End," lucky fans will be treated
to a screening of the film that started it all, "Pirates of the
Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" as well as a treasure trove of
giveaways and mega-prizes from Pirates partners.
Disney is also doing a cool thing – they’re offering a countdown clock that you can put on your site or blog, and when it countsdown to zero, the Pirates trailer will play. I don’t know why this is not in the form of a treasure chest that will open at the allotted time, and I don’t know why they offer only one huge size, but it is cool and fun. Go here to get the countdown clock for your own site, and sell Disney product for free!
