Last I reported on Michael Haneke’s Amour, it had managed to secure distribution in nearly every country except the US. It pleases me to write-up the announcement that Haneke’s partner on Cache and The White Ribbon, Sony Classics, will be handling North American distribution for Amour.
This is merely a partnership announcement so there’s no word on US release plans, but one can assume an art house theatrical run, perhaps timed with an eye towards award season if they feel it makes sense. I’m hoping for something quicker though- even if I’m still put on edge by the uncomfortable possibilities of a film about “an aging couple of retired music professors, whose enduring love is put to the test after the wife suffers a stroke and becomes partially paralyzed” as directed by Haneke.
Expect more words when the release picture comes into focus, but until then relax with the knowledge that you’ll soon be put on edge by one of the world’s most interesting filmmakers.
