Apparently the abysmal I Am Number Four was no roadblock for DJ Caruso’s path up the budget ladder, as the Eagle Eye and Disturbia director has now signed on to make the blockbuster disaster flick Invertigo for Sony. Lest you think the frequent Hitchcock riffer is doing another sideways remake of a ‘cock classic, note that this is a true Emmerichian disaster feature in which a space probe charged with “dark energy” crashes into New York City and starts fucking with Earth’s gravity, ultimately resulting in a mission through a floating NYC.

“A long lost NASA space probe mysterious crash lands in New York City, apparently under the influence of a “dark energy” force that drives the universe’s expansion. But the scientific curiosity soon becomes a disaster of cataclysmic proportions as Earth’s own gravity is disrupted and eventually reversed, causing skyscrapers and bridges to be ripped from the ground and rivers to rain from the sky. A team led by the Office of Emergency Management supervisor is forced to mount a desperate mission into upside-down Manhattan to avert the entire planet’s destruction.”

This Neil Moritz Production — that I must imagine will have a pretty serious budget — comes from a spec script from Transformers writer Ehren Kruger and first-time writer Bradley Cramp, and already has a date for March 7th, 2014. Kind of funny that blockbusters themselves have lost much of their traditional gravity, and keep slowly floating into more and more months of the year…
