Hey look, posters that have done their job!

These one-sheets for Baytown Disco alerted me to the existence of this little film, which was in no way on my radar before. Not that I’ve caught on I see that Billy Bob Thornton, Eva Longoria, and Paul Wesley star in what I have to assume will be a VOD-against-theatrical release, though I have no actual details on the distribution.

The film is apparently the result of a successful pitch by filmmakers based on a blacklisted script from 2009…

After her ex-husband Carlos shoots Celeste three times in the gut, it’s time to play dirty. In the fight for her godson, Rob, she hires three outlawed and redneck brothers to bring him back to her. But nothing can be that simple in the South. What begins as a small rescue mission rises to a southern battle royal. This odd team must shoot their way through gorgeous female assassins, Native American hunters, Federal agents, and a whole lot of metal coming after them, while protecting Celeste’s innocent child.

At some point a proof-of-concept piece was put together and was uploaded to YouTube in December. The video ain’t great — what with its cheesy acting, lame monologue, and cheapo Grindhouse filters — but since the script is supposedly decent I’ll cross my fingers that the actual feature will fill out nicely. Sometimes you just have to make a thing to get the ball rolling, so I’m not going to judge a short (that may or may not have ever been intended to see the light of day) too harshly.

Everything about this project screams Smokin’ Aces, perhaps by way of Black Snake Moan and a touch of diluted Devil’s Rejects. That could be the recipe for wincing pain, or a very fun time.

The Baytown boys have a FB Page and a Twitter feed, so keep up to date with those to find out when you can catch your next southern-fried genre flick.
