Somehow I missed this over the weekend: there’s a poster for the new Pang Brothers movie, The Messengers, and if you have microscopic vision, you should be able to make out the name ‘Mark Wheaton’ on there as screenwriter. That name may not be very familiar to you, but perhaps you’ll better remember his nom du internet, Smilin’ Jack Ruby.
Yes, the guy who used to do much of what I do now (and did it much more professionally and without pissing off half the people who read the site), has his first theatrical feature coming out. Mark had previously written the TV movie Firestorm: Last Stand at Yellowstone, but The Messengers is him stepping into the big time and in a genre I know he digs (IMDB tells me he wrote 1000 questions for the Fangoria Reel Scary Trivia game!).
The Messengers is about terrifying goings on at a sunflower farm where “the Solomon family is torn apart by suspicion, mayhem and murder.” It opens February 2.
