Isabelle Fuhrman is CHUD’s favorite orphan. The only orphan really, and that’s because–aside from being an Atlanta local–she starred in the remarkable horror film Orphan (which, by the way, I totally called that shit). She’s going to be 15 this year, but she will forever be “Orphan,” even as she grows up to be a lovely woman and becomes much more famous as one of the Hunger Games cast members.

All of that said, I’m happy to see her getting work in other films, even if her next one will force her to be directed by M. Night Shyamalan.

Joining the cast of After Earth, Fuhrman be playing the friend of Jaden Smith character. Smith will be joined by his father Will, and together they will play a heroic father and his failed warrior son who end up on long-abandoned Earth after a crash. As you might expect, there will be some role-reversal and the son will have to step up to save his father. They’ve ditched the 1000 A.E. title.

The film will start shooting in March, right as the Hunger Games kicks into full gear, so I expect this will be a good year for Ms. Fuhrman. As completely dismissive as I am about anything Shyamalan, there’s little more high profile of a gig than starring alongside Will Smith and his son on the big screen.
