One of the more quietly anticipated films of 2012 is Looper. It has a cool cast: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis, Emily Blunt, Garret Dillahunt, Paul Dano, and Jeff Daniels. It has an enticing premise: in the future, specialized mob hitmen, known as ‘Loopers,’ are stationed in the past to dispose of people that are sent from the future. When one of these Loopers (Gordon-Levitt) recognizes one victim as his future self (Willis), he hesitates, letting the man escape. It has a cool director: Brick‘s Rian Johnson. And further more, it was reported earlier in the year that Primer man of mystery Shane Carruth was working on the film. To what extent that Carruth story is still true or what he ultimately did on the project, it’s hard to say — the film is not listed amongst his credits on IMDb Pro. Regardless though, seeing high-concept genre ideas like this in the hands of someone like Johnson is always exciting, and even if it isn’t a masterpiece, Looper seems like it could be a solid slick ride, along the lines of this year’s Source Code.

And to keep our fickle appetites whet, Johnson has released a photo of himself sitting in Looper‘s industrial punk time machine. Feast!
