What. The. Hell?
Smokin’ Aces is the movie that Narc director Joe Carnahan made after exiting Mission Impossible 3, and thank a god other than Xenu that he did. All I knew was that the flick was a casino crime tale, but I certainly didn’t expect it to resemble Guy Ritchie by way of Road Warrior and a giant stack of comic books. It looks utterly insane. But honestly… I love it.
The movie stars Jeremy Piven, who apparently has the Bullseye-like (or maybe Ricky Jay-like) ability to hurl playing cards into people, as a sleazy Vegas magician/gangster on the run from the mob. There’s also Ben Affleck, Andy Garcia, Ray Liotta (who’s contractually obligated to appear in all mobster movies), songstress Alicia Keys with a high-powered sniper rifle, and dozens of people striking cool poses and firing preposterous quantities of ammunition.
