Rogue Pictures has announced the official start of production on their remake of the cult thriller The Hitcher, and while they’re at it┬áhave plunked in the third member of the cast to be terrorized by the homicidal drifter: TV regular Zachary Knighton, also of The Prince & Me.

The update (from Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes production company) seems like it’ll stick close to the story of the original: "The film tracks the terrifying cross-country trajectory of Jim (Zachary Knighton) and Grace (Sophia Bush), two traveling college students who are tormented by mysterious hitchhiker John Ryder, a.k.a. The Hitcher (Sean Bean)." That actually sounds a bit like Jeepers Creepers, but without the murderous monster and homoerotic subtext.

Commercial/music vid guy Dave Meyers is directing the new flick, from a screenplay by Jake Wade Wall and Eric Bernt.
