Rogue Pictures has announced the official start of production on their remake of the cult thriller The Hitcher, and while they’re at it have plunked in the third member of the cast to be terrorized by the homicidal drifter: TV regular Zachary Knighton, also of The Prince & Me.

The update (from Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes production company) seems like it’ll stick close to the story of the original: "The film tracks the terrifying cross-country trajectory of Jim (Zachary Knighton) and Grace (Sophia Bush), two traveling college students who are tormented by mysterious hitchhiker John Ryder, a.k.a. The Hitcher (Sean Bean)." That actually sounds a bit like Jeepers Creepers, but without the murderous monster and homoerotic subtext.

Commercial/music vid guy Dave Meyers is directing the new flick, from a screenplay by Jake Wade Wall and Eric Bernt.
