The Pitch

“The world famous Jeff Cesario, former writer for Dennis Miller Live and The Larry Sanders Show, will deliver 60 minutes of stand-up comedy for a ready and willing audience. Time permitting, the show will end with a giant explosion and a thousand strippers gyrating on stage while riding unicycles.”

The Humans

Take a wild guess.

"…and hackish television writers walk like this."

The Nutshell

Jeff Cesario muses on life and offers his “funny” observations on everyday occurrences. There’s nowhere Cesario won’t go! Targets of his sardonic wit include men crying, marriage, sports, lesbians and even leaf blowers. Be forewarned that this DVD is unrated, which means you will hear Cesario’s uncensored and no holds barred opinion of leaf blowers. This is not comedy for the faint of heart or the good of taste.

Either that or it indicates that they’re trapped in a loveless marriage in which their spouse sucks their will to live so much that even strong cards can bring them no happiness.

The Lowdown

You Can Get a Hooker Tomorrow Night is a misleading title. It makes one think that the comedy presented on this disc is at least a tiny bit edgy or at least a little bit original. It’s not. It’s sixty minutes of traditional and clichéd west coast comedy. It’s the type of lame comedy that one tells when they are looking to get hired as a writer on a trite sitcom. The most surprising thing about this stand-up special was that it didn’t include jokes about airline peanuts and parenthood.

Stand-up comedy is a very subjective thing. There’s no accounting for what one person is going to laugh at. Some people prefer the comedic stylings of the blue collar crew, other prefer the cringe humor of comedians like Jim Norton. The tried and true comedy of Cesario might come off as lame and predictable to more jaded viewers but could also be seen as mildly humorous and semi-clean comedy by others. Weighing in at a slim 60 minutes, sampling some of Cesario’s comedy might be worth the chance to stand-up fans.

Ready for what? Horrible, awful hack comedy so bad it makes you sick to your stomach? You’re probably right.

The Package

There’s no fancy behind the scenes documentary about the filming of the special which is sure to disappoint people who love watching comedians backstage drinking bottled water and calling their agent. A few deleted scenes are included. These are the jokes that weren’t good enough to make the cut. Why you would want to listen to these jokes is anyone’s guess. There’s also a scene in which Jeff double checks his list of jokes to make sure he’s not shorting you on the joke front.

The disc also includes previews of all the other sister DVDs released by New Wave Entertainment. All of these stand-up DVDs are proudly brought to you by one of the presumably many executive producers of Last Comic Standing. Yes, they’re actually putting that on the package like it’s a good thing. The show that featured Dat Phan and Ant is acting like it’s a showcase of great comedic acts. On the other hand, the blurb will serve as ample warning to any fans of good stand-up and they will stay far away from these DVDs.
