http://www.chud.com/graphics11/barbershoppreview1.jpgLet’s get this out of the way upfront: I am not a fan of Ice Cube’s recent swing into family-friendly territory, I didn’t think Are We There Yet? was any good, and I don’t think the idea of remaking Cary Grant’s Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House is a rational one. But if you’re going to do it, I like the way it’s being done – the Blandings remake is being turned into a sequel to Are We There Yet?.

I don’t know why I like that. Maybe it  just seems economical – instead of two shitty family-friendly movies starring Doughboy, we’ll have the one. It seems like smart thinking. The new movie will be called Are We Done Yet?, and will bring back Nia Long and the two kids from the first film. The quartet attempt to build a dream home in the suburbs, but things go wackily wrong (I assume not lynchingly wrong, although I wonder if the film will have the cojones to actually tackle white flight concepts) when the contractor butts heads with Cube, but bonds with Long and the kids. Thomas Haden Church was going to play the contractor, but the Lord plucked him from this mess and made him Sandman instead.
