casA few days ago we reported to you that Steven Spielberg was looking at mounting a remake of Mary Poppins (is it too late to make New Year’s resolutions? If not, I hereby resolve to never again use “mounting” to mean “starting up.” It’s fucking filthy sounding. Spielberg mounting Mary Poppins? I bet Julie Andrews would be game for that, actually), since the London stage version has become so popular.

Not so!, says his rep. “I think a spoonful of sugar went down the wrong way,”  Marvin Levy told SpielbergFilms.com “I never heard of this and couldn’t imagine Steven ever doing a remake of a classic – and a [Walt Disney] classic at that. There’s a Broadway show from Disney but nothing involving us in any way.”

He’s right. Steven would never remake a 1953 classic. He would just reimagine an old book.
