casAs one of the only people who defends High Tension (revelation: I haven’t bought the DVD), I feel it’s my duty to do some cheerleading on the next film from director Alexandre Aja – a remake of Wes Craven’s seminal film The Hills Have Eyes.

It’s best known for introducing us to the lovingly smashed features of Michael Berryman, and it’s one of the films that really defined the kind of grueling, exploitational horror I like best – the kind of horror you can still see on display in films like High Tension, The Devil’s Rejects and the upcoming Wolf Creek. The Hills Have Eyes is a great film that doesn’t actually cry out for a remake, but if you’re going to do it, have it done by someone with Aja’s sensibility.

Now the trailer is here, and while the first half doesn’t give us much, the second half is a descent into some really fucked up imagery that gets me very psyched about this film. It also has a good use of The Mamas and the Papas, truly important for setting the proper tone of terror.

I won’t spill any spoilers about star Emilie De Raven’s role in Lost, since my foreign readers get their knickers in a bangers and mash when I do something like that. I will tell you that star Ted Levine tucks his cock in Silence of the Lambs. Spoiled!
