As you may recall, CHUD’s own intrepid reporter Devin Faraci visited the set of Poseidon and was summarily bludgeoned about the torso by the film’s co-star Richard Dreyfuss. You can read more about that justifiable assault RIGHT HERE (along with all the other web-journals), but now we’ve got our first glimpse at the real disaster.

The megabudget Warner Bros. remake comes courtesy of director/gill-man Wolfgang Petersen (Das Boot, The Perfect Storm), who upgrades the salt-water calamity with shiny new special effects and a cast of familiar faces far more attractive than Ernest Borgnine and Shelley Winters.

As with the original 1972 catastrophe, the 21st century version takes place on a luxury ship that gets capsized by a tidal wave, leaving Kurt Russell, Josh Lucas, Kevin Dillon and a few hundred other semi-famous people trapped in the large metal container beneath the sea. I’m predicting it’ll be at least marginally more entertaining than the recent TV movie (sorry, Rutger).
