It seems like forever since Tom Cruise engaged in motorcycle-fu with the guy who was almost Wolverine, but now he’s back once again to upstage Ving Rhames and other members of his Impossible Mission Force.
Still no clue as to what Mission Impossible III is about, but it apparently revolves around Philip Seymour Hoffman being eeeeevil, and also involves speedboats and jumping off buildings and things being shot with missiles. It’s also the big break for actress Michelle Monaghan, although the few hundred of us who saw Kiss Kiss Bang Bang already fell in love with her.
After four-and-a-half seasons of spychick show Alias (two of them actually good!), director J.J. Abrams can clearly handle the labyrinthine espionage story punctuated with the occasional slo-mo leaping and/or detonation. Having an extensive cast that includes Billy Crudup, Laurence Fishburne, Simon Pegg, Keri Russell, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Maggie Q should also help.
