Hey there Los Angeles Fright fans!
As those of you who were party to our sold-out, popcorn explosion screening of Killer Klowns From Outer Space already know, this Friday (midnight @ The Cinefamily) we are showing Eric Red’s under-loved early 90’s horror-thriller, Body Parts, with Mr. Red there in person to yap at ya for a while.
Quoth the FNF blurb of power:
Cinema’s long-standing fascination with limbs that rebel against their owners dates all the way back to the ‘20s, with The Hands of Orlac — but Eric Red (creator of The Hitcher and Near Dark) flat-out perfected the formula with Body Parts, a white-knuckle manic thriller woefully underseen upon its release in the horror-challenged early ‘90s, but densely ripe for rediscovery. Jeff Fahey plays a scientist who loses his arm in an auto accident, only to get a replacement “part” from a deceased (you guessed it!) serial killer. What makes Red’s take on the idea stand out is the masterful way he ratchets up the tension; the guy knows how to styishly tighten the screws ‘til the wood is stripped, never letting up. Add to that one of the all-time astounding car chase setpieces, as well as Fahey’s crazed, inspired performance (which could honestly give Jack Nicholson’s turn in The Shining a run for its money), and you have yourself a bonafide hidden treasure.
As always I will be giving away some free tickets (each with a +1) to several lucky Los Angeles Chewers. The first place winner will also have one two-person couch reserved for their ass. To enter the running simply send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with BODY PARTS in the subject line and tell me your favorite person-fighting-themselves or part-of-themselves moment from film/television/literature/whatever. And I don’t mean inner-turmoil. I mean literal battling. Make sure to include your full name. I will only be contacting the winners.
For those who don’t feel like playing the game and just want to buy tickets, go here.
