Last night several networks supposedly aired the first annual Comedy Awards — a joint collaboration between Comedy Central and MTV meant to honor comedy in film, television, and beyond. I say supposedly because I didn’t watch it. So it could all be a lie as far as I know. But the big winners have been posted online (via Power News Network), so I guess it was real. Looking over the winners I now kinda wish I had watched, as my beloved redheaded step child of 2010, Hot Tub Time Machine, took home the award for Best Comedy Screenplay! Woot! I will now pretend that I really respect the Comedy Awards and treat this moment as the just validation I’ve been waiting for.

Of the two honorary awards, David Letterman received the show’s highest honor, the Johnny Carson Award for Comedic Excellence. And Eddie Murphy received the Comedy Icon Award, which is guess works — he is technically an icon.

As for the awards race, here are all the nominees with the winners marked. I’m curious how the nomination process worked. I’m offended that Megamind and fucking Shrek Forever After got nominated and How To Train Your Dragon didn’t. Also, Archer was robbed for the win in Best Animated Series.
