Curtis Hanson used to be a name to fear back in the day. Now his name alone justifies the decision to see a movie on its merits alone. That’s what happens when you uncork the trifecta of LA Confidential, Wonder Boys, and 8 Mile. Yeah, he’s a long way from hands rocking cradles and the soul-killing presence of Rebecca "The Slugger’s Wife" DeMornay.
I had no idea he was the helmer behind In Her Shoes, a high profile adaptation about a pair of bickering sisters and a tome that had the estrogyn set all aflutter during its release. It still occupies prominent space at the major book chains.
Cameron Diaz and Toni Collette play the sisters, and while such a story might inspire fear in some guys, the presence of Hanson ought to serve as a salve on any potential macho wounds. His only real error in recent memory was in giving Kim Basinger one job too many, something which reminded us that her Oscar nomination was a fluke of whale sized proportions.
Rounding out the cast are Kinski-jawed and solid actor Eric "Jim Bouton’s" Balfour, Mark "I can’t hide from chick flicks" Feuerstein, and Shirley "I was Rodan in another life" MacLaine.
I just so happen to have a mongo stack of passes for this film’s Atlanta screening and would love nothing more than to thrust them into envelopes and send them packing across the streets to your home where I’m sure a cadre of women (and men who aren’t too burdened by hitting fists and watching the ‘Dawgs’ or NASCAR) are aching to see this one.
There’s very good word of mouth towards it and it’s only a chick flick if you let it be.
Want to see it early? Pop a SASE in the mail to the address below and you may not be in her shoes, but you’ll be in a theater watching In Her Shoes. Please write SHOES in big letters on the exterior envelope.
