Bill Hicks was quite simply one of the greatest comedians of all time, his material a perfect blend of social commentary, biting wit and irreverent attitude. The Dark Poet died way before his time but it’s been remarkable to see how much his humor has held up and how much is still remarkably relevant to what’s going on in the world today.
American: The Bill Hicks Story is a feature-length documentary that seeks to tell you all about who the man really was, using his humor and lots and lots of photo manipulation. Over a thousand pictures were used in a new animation technique to try and immerse you in his world- you can see the new trailer below for examples of how that works. Not quite sure how keen I am on it myself, but we’ll see how it works in the context of the film.
American: The Bill Hicks Story will open in theaters in New York on April 8th and LA on the 15th. Austin, Portland and Phoenxix will follow in the weeks to come- check the official site to keep up to date on theater info.
Fun personal fact! While first dating I wooed my wife, then a film marketing major, by showing her this clip from his film Revelations.
