New Yorkers, I hope you have a lot of free time next month. You’re going to be spending a lot of it at the Museum of the Moving Image.

As we told you back in October, the Moving Image is reopening on January 15th with a new extension that contains a state-of-the-art theater where all kinds of amazing screenings will be held.

They’ve just sent over the schedule for the first few weeks, and it’s a good time to be a film buff in NYC, let me tell you. Highlights include brand new restored 70mm prints of 2001: A Space Odyssey and Jacques Tati’s Playtime, the world premiere of a restored print of The Hustler, and the start of their family matinees with screenings such as Coraline in Digital 3D and the classic Marx Brothers flick Duck Soup. That’s not even talking about screenings like John Ford’s lost silent film Upstream which will be performed with live music, or the wuxia classic The Valiant Ones which will be having one of its rare screenings. It’s hard to hold in the ecstasy here, folks- I live right near here the museum and plan to be attending as much as possible. The 15th alone- man, I might spend all day in the theater.
You can bet that I’m getting a membership this year.
