To this day, Transformers 2 is something that has not happened to me. With movies like that, there tends to be a lot of talk along the lines of “trash it all you want, you know you’ll see it” and in this very specific case, I can say that I didn’t. The film is starting to make the cable rounds though(I’ve been making a trip home on Sundays to catch Boardwalk Empire– my father was watching Revenge of the Fallen when I arrived this last weekend), so there’s a chance it may yet happen to me in some form or another. The new teaser trailer for Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon definitely happened to me, and it can happen to you too below, or at it’s home on Apple Trailers.
Per usual, I’ve yanked stills you can take a look at, and as you can see the trailer is pretty straightforward- mysterious titles over a recreation of the moon landing, with a surprising twist that reveals the astronaut’s secret activities during their 21 minutes of radio silence. Neil and company run across what I assume to be the Autobot’s Arc (even I know that bit of Trans-lore) filled with many inactive bots. Eventually we are given a nice close-up view of a metal gentleman who I’m told looks suspiciously like Alpha Trion, an original transformer and the dude who made Optimus Prime (in some canon, at least). I’m sure there are many more important details to be pointed out about the character, if it is in fact Alpha Trion that shows up in the trailer. I’m also noticing a great deal of speculation that Bay’s return to space will mean that Unicron makes an appearance, perhaps even being converted to Moonicron. I wouldn’t put it past Bay to make the Moon a transformer, so it’s likely as not. Hell, maybe the Armageddon asteroid can cameo!
This will hit theaters on July 1st, 2011 in 3D, a format Michael Bay loved shooting in- don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
