And there you have it- Chris Evans is Captain America, looking more coiffed and Aryan than ever before (despite the brown eyes). Entertainment Weekly has debuted the photo as their next cover (self-evidently), and I’m sure the issue itself will bring a few more snapshots we’ve never seen before. We’ve seen the costume on a stuntman before, and we’ve seen Chris Evans as the character, but this is the first time we’ve seen the character in the costume as the hero we’ll be watching come July 22nd, 2011. The costume is well done, and almost exactly what we’ve been expecting (though the padding in the outfit looks a little bit like modern motorcycle gear to me, though Chris looks oddly concerned in this picture. It’s not the kind of look that demonstrates general concern for the imminent danger of the world, but something more like concern that he’s not sure where this photoshoot is going and he forgot to bleach his assgate. That same tease has a few quotes from the interview featured in the issue, which includes Chris Evans describing his nervousness over accepting the part.

“At the time, I remember telling a buddy of mine, ‘If the movie bombs, I’m fucked. If the movie hits, I’m fucked!’ …I was just scared, I realized my whole decision making process was fear based, and you never want to make a decision out of fear… I can’t believe I was almost too chicken to play Captain America.”

Despite his trepidation he ended up with a contract that secures him for half-a-dozen Marvel films, and places him front-and-center in the set-up to the massive scale Avengers film.

Also mentioned in the article’s summary of the film is that the cosmic cube will be an important plot device, as Devin caught onto and confirmed at Comic Con. Apparently it’s been renamed “The Tesseract.”

The magazine is out tomorrow.
