Yesterday we reported that Idris Elba was interested in bringing Luke Cage to the big screen. Now comes word from Hollywood Reporter that Elba has just signed on to Neveldine & Taylor’s Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. THR also reports that Johnny Whitworth, who worked with the directors in last years’ Gamer, has likewise signed on for the sequel, so casting is chugging along rapidly.

Elba is bloody well busy with Marvel properties these days, as he’s in Thor now Ghost Rider 2, and possibly the Luke Cage deal if it ever comes to fruition!

For Ghost Rider, Elba is playing an alcoholic warrior monk who is sent by a secret sect to locate Johnny Blaze. Whitworth is playing the opposite character, in that he’s a criminal tasked to find the Devil’s (Ciaran Hinds) son.

Great news, especially concerning Elba. With each new casting announcement the chances of the sequel actually being good increase drastically, and this is yet another step in the right direction.
