File this one under “extreme rumor”, but one that is more than likely to come true. Production Weekly (as well as Collider) have started writing about Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s possible involvement in the upcoming The Arabian Nights. Supposedly Mr. Rock would be playing Sinbad, but because there’s been no word from the studio as yet it’s all conjecture.
Were he to win the role, Rock would be joining Liam Hemsworth (Knowing) and Anthony Hopkins in director Chuck Russell’s 3D epic. Remember, it was Russell who gave Johnson his Hollywood start in The Scorpion King back in the old days, so there are legs to this rumor.
Whatever the outcome of casting I pray to everything this gets made. If, for nothing else than to see Tony Hopkins playing an evil sorcerer. I realize this has the makings of a train wreck, but stranger things have happened and if it’s great I’ll happily admit I was wrong. But something tells me I won’t have to worry about that.
