Do you believe as I do that The Coen Brothers are very close to being the greatest living American filmmakers? Well hell, even if you don’t, you need to wrap your eyes around the trailer for their next film, True Grit. The story follows a little girl’s quest to avenge her father’s death, and her relationship with the grizzled marshal she convinces to accompany her. Hailee Steinfeld, Matt Damon, and Josh Brolin also star.

The teaser is brief, and rides completely on the unmatched power of Coen/Deakins photography. Add on a haunting children’s vocal piece (“Where No One Stands Alone” by The Peasall Sisters –thanks KungFuCornelius) and this just feels like another classic in the making.
I’ve included some high-res stills pulled from the Apple trailer, which you can click to enlarge below.
