THR has the new trailer for Disney’s upcoming 3D animated film, Tangled, which was formerly known as Rapunzel

It stars the voices of Mandy Moore and Zachary levi and is Disney Animation’s take on the classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale.  The synopsis (via Wikipedia): When the rogue Flynn Rider (Levi)
chooses an isolated tower for his latest hideout, he has no idea the
tower is already occupied by a princess who was kidnapped as an infant
by the greedy Mother Gothel (Donna Murphy). Rapunzel (Moore),
who can use her magical hair to heal, sees the devil-may-care bandit as
her escape from the tower and a chance at a life of adventure – one
that may reunite her with her long-lost parents and restore her royal
heritage.
Brad Garrett, Ron Perlman, Jeffrey Tambor, M.C. Gainey (M.C,. Gainey? Neat.), and Paul F. Tompkins co-star.

Wiki also has it that the reason for the name change is that due to lower-than-expected grosses for 2009’s well-received The Princess and the Frog, Disney felt that the title kept young boys out of the theatres.  This is also supposedly the reason why Flynn is featured more prominently in the trailer.  A former Disney guy, though, doesn’t quite see that logic: Floyd Norman,
a former Disney and Pixar animator, said, “The idea of changing the
title of a classic like
Rapunzel to Tangled is beyond stupid. I’m
convinced they’ll gain nothing from this except the public seeing
Disney as desperately trying to find an audience.”
Oof.  I hope Floyd got his Disney letters of recommendation ahead of time..  On a side note, is it me or does the poster look like Rapunzel and Flynn have found contentment in Cousin Itt’s ass?

Tangled is directed by
Nathan Greno (Super Rhino) and Byron Howard (Bolt), with a script by Dan Fogelman (Bolt) and those Grimm guys; and also music from Alan Menken and lyrics by Glenn Slater.  It opens on November 24th.
