“Cowboys and Aliens” is quickly garnering some buzz and attention due to the recent confirmation by director Jon Favreau that Harrison Ford has joined the project. Already confirmed as also being attached to the project are Daniel Craig (taking over for Robert Downey Jr.) and Olivia Wilde. The cast and director are already enough to get this “non graphic novel reader” excited.

This movie, as I’m sure many of you are aware, is based on a graphic novel that was written by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg. The series was published in 2006. The subsequent movie is going to be a Dreamworks/Universal picture that will be written by the team of Alex Kurtzman, Robert Orci and Damon Lindelof. The movie is to be released July 29th, 2011.

As for the update, in today’s Albuquerque Journal, there was an article by Dan Mayfield about where “Cowboys and Aliens” will be shot. He says that the movie will be coming to New Mexico as local casting director Elizabeth Gabel has already started looking for actors for the movie. Now according to Gabel’s casting site, the memo for casting for the film has been up since 4-5-2010. So while this news may not be extremely recent, it was something that I thought should be mentioned. Gabel’s website seems to indicate that the movie will start production some time this summer, which correlates with other sites saying that production will start in July.

If you are someone that lives in the Albuquerque, NM area, make sure to visit the Gabel’s casting site linked above for a chance to be in this film. Not only will it be a great learning experience, but you will also have the chance to work with some great talent and possibly meet them at the same time.
