Coming Soon has five pics from Paul B.S. Anderson’s (omg, see what I did there?!) upcoming 3D adaptation of The Three Musketeers (opens April 15, 2011). We get a good look Mads Mikkelsen rocking Rochefort’s eye-patch and The Lightning Theif‘s Logan Lerman as D’Artagnan. Plus a riveting pic of Anderson standing on set.
God knows why, but I’m finding myself sort of interested in this film. I haven’t liked a single thing Anderson has ever done. Were I forced to rank the man’s dubious filmography, Mortal Kombat would probably top the list, and that’s a pretty unfortunate film to have at the top any list (aside from maybe an equally dubious ranking of video game film adaptations). So logic would dictate that I won’t like his The Three Musketeers either. Yet, color me curious.
For one thing, I think we’re due another Three Musketeers film. It’s been over 30 years since Richard Lester’s amazing two-part adaptation, and Anderson’s not facing much competition by comparison with the 90’s Charlie Sheen version or 2001’s Asiany assfest, The Musketeer. His film has a decent cast, also featuring Matthew Macfadyen, Ray Stevenson, Christoph Waltz, and Mrs. W.S. Anderson, Milla Jovovich.
I think I just want to see some 3D sword fighting. I don’t have a high opinion of Anderson as a director, but I like that he’s using 3D cameras for this, instead of a post-conversion. I would have preferred that Doug Liman’s Musketeer film had gotten off the ground, but if Anderson can pull off some fun 3D swash-buckling, that’s novelty enough to put my butt in a seat. God help me.
