Apparently MTV is getting into the slasher business.

Savage County, which was originally intended as a web series, is now being packaged as a feature length film. MTV isn’t shooting for the stars though. They’re forgoing theatrical distribution, instead looking in their own backyard… but only if you demand it.

MTV is attempting the strategy that worked so well for Paranormal Activity last year, and asking people to “Demand” the film online. They have paired with the digital information service and marketer Eventful to create the social medial campaign. If just 100,000 people want Savage County, MTV plans to air the film on MTV2 in October. If not? Well, then I guess it goes back to being a web series.

The story is about a group of teens to stumble into the wrong place at the wrong time blah blah hillbillies yadda torture porn. I always root for small horror projects, but this looks pretty weak (awful, depending on how low-budget you can tolerate).
