Last week the “big” casting announcement was that smokin’ Alice Eve had been dumped from X-Men: First Class and replaced with smokin’ January Jones. Though no reason for this swap was given. Well, according to Comic Book Movie‘s sources within Marvel, “Eve and her management team successfully petitioned to have FOX release her from her X-Men: First Class contract,” apparently unhappy with script changes made to her character of Emma Frost. Whatever the truth, Fox is supposedly eager to keep Eve in the hero house (don’t blame em. I’d probably try and keep her in my house too). CBM says that “FOX is still interested in placing her into one of their films: Fantastic Four Reborn, as the character Sue Storm/the Invisible Woman.” So Eve has joined the (currently) short list of hopefuls, along with Mandy Lane herself, Amber Heard. ScreenRant is also reporting that Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Adrien Brody are both being considered for the role of Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic. As The Thing will apparently be CG this time, I will start my own rumor. Seth Rogen is in the running. The Thing will make a lot of self-deprecating jokes about his Jewish heritage this time around.
I could not be less interested in this film. While I’d love to see a character like Daredevil given another shot, I think the Fantastic Four got basically what their material warranted. The first film was what it was. The FF ensemble is goofy at its best and stupid at its worst, and so was the film. Far from brilliant, but I’m not sure what exactly it was failing to do that this reboot will make good on. If they were going to go the route of Ultimate Fantastic Four, skew younger, maybe. But Fox needs to keep those film rights, so here we are. I guess… at least they’re looking at blonds for Sue Storm?
