I
think we all need at least one really nice positive thing about the
entertainment business every single day of the year, including weekends.
Sometimes it may be something simple, like a video that showcases
something fun and sometimes it may be a movie poster that embraces the
aesthetic we all want Hollywood to aspire to. Sometimes it may be a
long-winded diatribe. Sometimes it’ll be from the staff and extended
family of CHUD.com. Maybe even you readers can get in on it. So, take
this to the bank. Every day, you will get a little bit of positivity
from one column a day here. Take it with you. Maybe it’ll help you
through a bad day or give folks some fun things to hunt down in their
busy celluloid digesting day.

The Faith No More Reunion.

I am a huge Mike Patton/Faith No More/Mr. Bungle/Fantomas/Tomahawk/Peeping Tom fan and have always harbored hope that the band that he was most creatively and commercially successful with would take another swing before it got to the point where they’d lost their chops and were just doing it to milk those last few nickels from the remaining fans.

They did it, and they did it with more class and skill than I could have imagined. It was a very special June morning in 2009 where the band reunited at the Download Festival and folks like me were able to watch it streaming live from the other side of the world, watching as they raged through their hits, a few obscure numbers, and Peaches & Herb’s ‘Reunited’ dressed in suits and seeming even better live than the last time I’d seen them in their prime.

Though their biggest hit [‘Epic’, duh] does a very poor job of representing the quality of their catalog and though so many bad bands have taken Mike Patton’s style and given it the Jodie Foster treatment (though Incubus’ S.C.I.E.N.C.E. album is surprisingly great), Faith No More is still relevant and perhaps music needs them more now than ever before.

They’ve been touring and Twittering and seem to be getting along and it hasn’t interfered with the many side projects of all involved. It warms my heart. Here’s hoping more albums await in the future, because these guys are super talented and always challenging themselves. And I think it’s safe to say time has only expanded their legacy.
