The question of who would land the plum role of Lisbeth Salander in David Fincher’s adaptation of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (first book in Stieg Larsson’s “The Millennium Trilogy”) has been a hot topic this summer. Fincher had auditioned such talented ladies as Natalie Portman, Cary Mulligan and Emma Watson, and the name of pretty much every young actress, established or up-and-coming, was bandied about in the press – Ellen Page, Kristen Stewart, Emily Browning, Sophie Lowe, etc and so forth. Kim Possible was probably in there somewhere too. Well, Fincher has finally selected a lady. Drum roll please…

Rooney Mara!

Mara most recently braved her way through the insult to cinema that was the A Nightmare On Elm St remake and will soon be seen in Fincher’s The Social Network. She’s also the sister of Kate Mara.

Oh, hey, Kate. Didn’t see ya there.

I didn’t think much of anything of Mara in Elm St, but that movie was such a shit-sandwich I don’t think I can/should hold it against her. I trust Fincher’s judgment here. If he thinks she’s got the goods, she probably does.
