It
makes perfect sense that Guillermo is a serious gamer, and that he’d be
interested in extending his brand (and make no mistake, he’s becoming a
hell of a brand) into that world. He said as much, with scant details, to MTV several days ago, and now the LA Times believes it has the scoop
on the company Guillermo will be working with- THQ. While the company
is known mostly for kiddy games, they’ve also produced more adult
projects like Red Faction and Saints Row, along with a few genre film tie-ins like The Punisher, and The Evil Dead.
Guillermo described the partnership (with the as yet undisclosed partner) to MTV in definitive terms-
“One
of the things we’re announcing in the next few weeks is a big deal with
a big company. We’re going to do games that are going to be technically
and narratively very interesting. It’s not a development deal. We’re
going to do it. We’re doing them. And we’re going to announce it soon
enough.”
The LA Times notes that The Rocketeer co-writer and The Flash TV series co-creator Danny Bilson is leading the deal, as he’s THQ’s “Executive Vice President of Core Games.”
The
video game world will be quite a playground for Del Toro, and it will
be fascinating to see what he’s up to. Will we be seeing him directly
involved in an At the Mountains of Madness game? Entirely new properties? Keep your eyes peeled for more after an official announcement.
