I tried, people. I tried SO hard to love Crackdown like the cool kids
did, but it took all of a week for the game to bore the piss out of me.
There’s some fun gameplay mechanics at work, tied to a cracker bland
set of missions and environments. So, now, Microsoft’s taking another
crack at it (I swear on all things holy that pun was unintended), and
since then, Prototype, Infamous, Just Cause 2 have happened, all of
which do things Crackdown 1 failed at, and, judging from the demo and
trailers, haven’t been addressed in the sequel. There’s certainly
enough going on for it that I can’t begrudge anyone’s excitement for
Crackdown 2, but it’ll take a lot more than the ability to hurl a truck
across a city to get a rise out of me, especially while my beloved Red
Dead Redemption
has its claws in me still.

DESPICABLE ME
D3 of America
Wii, DS, PSP, PS2
6/6

To be perfectly honest, I got nothing to say about this game. D3’s put
out some fun, if disposable stuff before (Onechanbara, Earth Defense
Force 2017, and Dark Sector to be precise), but their licensed games
unilaterally squirt mediocrity from every oriface. I’m mostly drawing
this out just to point out THERE’S STILL PS2 GAMES BEING MADE, and
should the system hobble its way into 2011, it will have outlived both
its predecessor and the NES, thus snatching the record for the longest
lifecycle for a computer entertainment system.

Damn.

OTHER GAMES OF INTEREST

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable (Atlus; PSP; $39.99)

OOOHHHHH: ON THE DLC TIP

DRAGON AGE ORIGINS: LEILANA’S SONG
360, PS3, PC
6/6
$6.99/560 MS pts

From a story standpoint, this DLC reminds me a lot of the Kasumi DLC
from Mass Effect 2, but that’s in no way a bad thing, unless gamers get
shafted on the mission length. What is important here is realizing just
how well EA/Bioware have been supporting these games so long after
release, and how screwed I am in the wallet once I actually buy Dragon
Age for myself.

alive, I’ll–

Wait…..CCR? Bad Moon Rising? Down On The Corner? A non-cover version of Fortunate Son? Who’ll Stop The Rain?
