Two great tastes that taste great together: Rian Johnson and The
Mountain Goats. Johnson is a terrific young filmmaker whose movies Brick and
The
Brothers Bloom I’m sure you’ve seen. The Mountain
Goats is a band headed by (and more or less totally the work of) John
Darnielle. Recently Rian filmed a very intimate Mountain Goats
performance of the band’s new album,
style="font-style: italic;">
style="font-weight: bold;">The Life of the World to Come,
which has had a very limited theatrical run and was released as a
limited DVD on Record Store Day this year. Rian’s been a fan of The
Mountain Goats for some time, and actually directed a video for the song
Woke Up
New a
couple of years ago.
The film is available free on
Pitchfork for a limited time; I’ve attempted to embed the whole thing
below, but I don’t know if it works. If not,
