Welcome to the third Mortal Kombat story on chud’s front page in less than a week. That’s almost as impressive a hat trick as the one featured in the trailer for the new Mortal Kombat, which boasts a return to the franchise’s 2D roots:

So Mortal Kombat’s bringing back the physics-defying, organ-splattering, Mom-enraging fatalities that made the series famous. This seems like a step in the right direction for the franchise, especially after Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe’s middling, sonorous wet fart. NetherRealm studios, formerly WB Games Chicago, is handling the development of the 9th Mortal Kombat game, which will feature co-op modes, tag-team battles, and 60-fps disembowelments.

Plan on it arriving some time in 2011 for the PS3 and 360.
