Worried that too many shooters are getting grim and gritty? Pine for the arcade days of old? Wish there was a game that rewarded creative kills? Look no further than Bulletstorm. They’ve just released the absolutely ridiculous first trailer from the game, which just looks like a complete blast.

Nice use of NIN, eh? No one’s going to get this reference, but this reminds me a bit of the
over-the-top action of Chili Con Carnage for the PSP. The game wasn’t perfect
but there’s something about a points-reliant, arcade-type shooter that doesn’t take
itself seriously that is so massively entertaining.

In Bulletstorm points are used to earn new weapons and tools, so you’re going to want to get as creative as possible here. Just shooting people dead won’t get you anything! The story is being written by Rick Remender and is about a space pirate that’s being pursued by a military group and ends up crash landing on a horrific planet. The place used to be a tourist trap but after some sort of disaster struck the place was overrun with the local wildlife. You’ll have to fight both the animals and military group that’s after you.

Bulletstorm is coming to Xbox 360, PS3 and PC from People Can Fly (Painkiller, Gears of War PC) and Epic Games, published by EA. Expect it to hit sometime next year.
