Deadline NY is reporting that the long-planned Judge Dredd reboot has just gotten financial backing. Andrew Macdonald’s DNA Films made a deal with India-based Reliance Big Entertainment and IM Global to fund the film, which is being written by Alex Garland (Sunshine, 28 Days Later, Enslaved).
The other big and completely unsurprising news? It will be in 3D.
Judge Dredd of course is set in a dystopian future city where the cops act as judge, jury and executioner. I’d say more here but I’ve successfully eliminated most of my memory of watching the original movie. People have always had good things to say about the original 2000AD comic, though.
Pete Travis of Vantage Point is set to direct the new film from a 50 million dollar budget.
