Machine Girl. Tokyo Gore Police. RoboGeisha. Vampire Girl vs. Frankenstein Girl.
Yes, it’s thanks to the internet and trailers like these that FX wizards and directors Yoshihiro Nishimura and Noboru Iguchi (and the rest of their insane collaborators) have become newly famous in the Western world, and they’re not resting yet. Each successive film has only gotten more ridiculous and over the top and a trailer for their latest, Mutant Girls Squad, has just hit the net. The film was co-directed by Nishimura and Iguchi along with Tak Sakaguchi, the badass from Versus and director of a few films himself.
Rin, a bullied teenager, discovers her arm has mutated into a razor-sharp weapon on her 16th birthday. A shadow government organization immediately begins hunting her down, slaughtering her parents in the process, but Rin is saved in the nick of time by a super-powered being called Hiruko. Soon, mutants from all over Japan are gathered together and begin militant training to overthrow the government. Meanwhile, Rin is fitted with a special iron mask and begins her life as a “battle girl,” utilizing both her mutant powers and acrobatic abilities to fight against mutant-hunting special forces.
Mutant Girls Squad will premiere at the always-incredible NY Asian Film Fest in June. It makes sense, since last year’s Tokyo Gore Night was such an incredible success. Check these videos from the night if you dare.
The NY Asian Film Fest will also be presenting Sammo Hung with a lifetime achievement award and premiering Jackie Chan’s latest movie Little Big Solider, which they’re saying is his best movie since Drunken Master 2. Big words indeed. Check their official site for more.
