For those willing to spend the time with them, the Monster Hunter games are actually fairly satisfying gameplay experiences. Not that anyone on American soil knows that since every single one of them has failed miserably to catch on in the States, one of a scant few Capcom series that hasn’t. There was an interview not too long ago with the series creator who says a huge reason the series took off in Japan was due to the local multiplayer aspect, which rewards four people in close proximity, able to communicate and work as a unit with or against one another. And yet, the newest iteration of the game is coming out on a console with an online component a step or two higher than connecting two game systems together with Twizzlers covered in Crazy Glue.
Good job, Capcom.
OOOH: ON THE DLC TIP
AFTER BURNER CLIMAX
XBL, PSN
4/20 XBL, 4/21 PSN
$9.99/800 MS pts
If there was ever a new release that should make any red blooded old school gamer drop to their knees and mourn, it’s this one. Sure, After Burner‘s been prettied up with next gen graphics, features good old fashioned shooter fun, with a couple of new twists, and all that jazz but let’s face it: That series was all about the gyroscopic cabinet, and no matter how good Climax turns out to be, something vital always be missing.
Also, the title sounds like slang for sex during a herpes outbreak.

Sadly, this was one of those weeks where I actually had to YouTube the entire DLC slate, and I’ve learned two valuable lessons from that little musical journey. One, my knowledge of late 80s/early 90s pop rock still has some serious holes in it that need to be rectified sooner than later. And two, I’ve been absolutely right in assuming that the next person to tell me I’ll enjoy Coheed and Cambria if I like The Mars Volta does indeed deserve to be hit an obscene number of times in the kidneys.
