I’ve been told that Russia is the next big international movie market, which could be why The Darkest Hour – an alien invasion movie directed by and starring Americans – is not just being shot there, but is actually set there.

The latest actor to join the 40 million dollar film is Emile Hirsch, a truly gifted young man who needs to get recognized by Hollywood in a big way. He’s joining Olivia Thrilby in the story of a group of teens in Moscow who have to deal with the aftermath of an alien invasion. It’s being touted as 28 Days Later-esque.

Chris Gorak, director of the effective Right at Your Door, is helming and Russian movie titan Timur Bekmambetov is producing, with Summit being the studio. I don’t know much else about this one, but it’s on my radar of interest.
