One of the best films I saw at Sundance this year was Vincenzo Natali’s Splice, in which Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley create a weird new lifeform through genetic splicing (read my review here). While I loved it I didn’t know if this oddball, offbeat movie would be for everyone – a question Warner Bros and Joel Silver, who ponied up the money and promised thousands of screens to the film – didn’t have. You’ll get a chance to see Splice on June 4th when the movie goes into wide release.

There’s a teaser trailer now, which sells the movie as much more of a horror piece, but that doesn’t really hint at the… odder side of Splice. I’m curious to see if they’ll integrate the weird stuff that comes as the creature grows up into future campaigns; since this is just a teaser they only need to get audiences familiar with the fact that a cool looking horror film is on the horizon.
