Dimension’s finally given the green light to Scream 4, which will start shooting this spring for a April 15th, 2011 release date. For those playing at home, that means that it will be just over 11 years since the last installment (Scream 3 hit theaters on February 4th, 2000.)

Wes Craven will once again direct from a script by Kevin Williamson, and Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courtney Cox will reprise their roles, along with a newer, younger, presumably more-attractive-to-a-teen-audience cast.

“‘Scream’ has been such an integral part of Dimension’s history, and I look forward to continuing the franchise,” said Dimension Films chief Bob Weinstein, who is also co-chairman of The Weinstein Company.

We can only pray that the time apart from the franchise has done everyone some good, and they can steer it out of the dreck that was the third film.
