Sadly, looking at his post-Ronin
track record, that is a more apt saying than we wish it were.
But it’s also part of some potential dialogue we may see Bobby D. spout when
he steps into the role of gridiron coaching legend, Vince Lombardi, for
ESPN Films, says THR.com.  Oscar winning screenwriter, Eric Roth, will be penning the story.

The film will focus on the years that Lombardi rebuilt the Green Bay
Packers into gridiron NFL champions. The producers plan to release the
film between the AFC and NFC conference championship games and the
Super Bowl in 2012.  De Niro and Jane Rosenthal’s Tribeca Prods. is producing along with ESPN Films, Andell, the NFL and Chris Olsen.

This could turn out to be a really interesting project, as Lombardi is simply the embodiment of football in this country and is widely known for his many quotes pertaining to not only the gridiron, but life as well.  These include, “Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing,” “Fatigue makes cowards of us all,” “If you aren’t fired with enthusiasm, you will be fired with enthusiasm,”
and “If you can accept losing, you can’t win.”

In the meantime, Mr. De Niro has a slew of projects upcoming, including Machete, The Dark Fields and, God help us, Fockers 3.

Show me a good loser on the message boards.
