It always makes me happy when a company knows how to cut a trailer. The trailers for Mafia II have consistently shown interesting characters, intense gameplay, and the latest (entitled “Boom Boom” from the John Lee Hooker song of the same name) is no exception, finally showing off some of the gameplay. Check out the gunplay interspersed here and be amazed at how brutal is looks.

All of the graphics are from the in-game engine. I had the privilege of sitting in for a demo of the game last year and it looked amazing even back then. The part with the skyscraper? That’s a mission everyone will be talking about.

2K Games today also announced that they’re signed a license agreement with Playboy to use more than 50 of their covers and centerfolds in the game. Since the game’s set in the 1940s and 50s, they’re going to enable you to collect some of the first issues of the mag, which started in 1953. Pretty interesting partnership, and could this finally be the first game collectible that’s worth hunting down? I want to see an achievement for that sucker.

Mafia II hits PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 at the end of May. Check the previous trailers for the game below and yearn for a companion soundtrack.
