It’s bizarre enough that Ridley Scott is returning to direct a prequel to the movie that kick-started his career, so after that news it shouldn’t be any surprise that the new Alien will be shot in CHEST-BURSTING 3D.
Shadow Locked recently had a chat with art director Roger Christian (of Star Wars and Alien fame) about the upcoming prequel, and he made the firm statement that “Ridley’s doing the next Alien in 3D.”
When asked about if the new film could resurrect the franchise, Christian seemed convinced. “I do,” he said. “Ridley told me some of his ideas when we were here in Toronto. He has a very clear understanding of where this should go. They kind of stopped dead one of the greatest horror franchises there’s ever been, and it had legs to go on. So I’m hoping he’ll revive another three. The world certainly wants it, and the fans want it – everybody. “
Christian would certainly like to be involved in the prequel, but nothing’s set just yet. I’m not sure about everyone wanting more Alien films, but with Ridley Scott involved, it’s pretty exciting. Let’s just hope they don’t use the 3D as too much of a crutch- although if he kept the spooky feel of the original film and utilized it well it could be glorious.
This movie would be easy as hell to market, too. All you would need is a 3D red band trailer that showed an alien ripping his way out of a person’s chest towards the camera. FROM ACCLAIMED DIRECTOR RIDLEY SCOTT COMES A NEW DIMENSION OF ALIEN. Boom, 500 million.
